Visual Hierarchy and Above the Fold: Help Eyes Know Where to Go

Visual hierarchy is the order your page asks people to notice things. “Above the fold” means what appears before someone scrolls. It is not sacred real estate, but it is where visitors decide whether the page is worth their attention.

What should be easy to spot first

  • What you offer.
  • Who it is for or where you serve.
  • Why it is worth choosing.
  • The next step.
  • One believable proof point when available.

Common hierarchy problems

  • A giant image or slogan pushes the actual offer offscreen.
  • Every button, heading, and badge shouts at the same volume.
  • The headline is vague while the useful detail is tiny.
  • The first screen asks for trust before it gives a reason to trust.

Quick above-the-fold checklist

  • View the homepage on a phone and laptop without scrolling.
  • Can you understand the offer and primary CTA at a glance?
  • Is the most important proof visible or immediately nearby?
  • Does one element clearly lead the eye before everything else?
